Having a healthy heart is one of the most important things for your health, heart disease is the leading cause of death in America. The importance of keeping your heart healthy cannot be overstated, here are five ways to help keep your heart healthy!

1.Staying Active
staying active is super important for keeping your heart healthy, it is recommended that most adults get 150 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity per a week. Exercise can help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. For easy ways to start exercising you can go on walks or hikes, you can also try biking or swimming. Swimming is a great low impact way to start exercising to reduce risk of an injury. How every you want to exercise is up to you, the important thing is that you get moving!

2.Eating Healthy
What you eat contributes to your health. Eating healthy doesn't mean you have to give up delicious food, eating healthy means eating a balanced diet. There are lots of amazing heart healthy recipes you can find online, try looking up "balanced meals" or "heart healthy recipes" and try the ones that look the best to you!

3.Yearly Health Checkups
Getting your yearly checkup can be super important for your health, it gives you an opportunity to get a better look at your health and work with your doctor to help keep yourself healthy. It is a great time to bring up any concerns you have regarding your heart and ask about screening options. Be sure to let your doctor know if you are experiencing anything abnormal, like chest pain or shortness of breath.

4.Knowing the Warning Sighs
It's important to know the warning signs of cardiovascular disease or a cardiac event, like pain or discomfort in your chest or arms, pain in your jaw or back, shortness of breath or nausea. You can also ask your doctor about signs for cardiovascular disease to look out for, and if there are any early screening options. If you are experiencing any distressing symptoms talk to your doctor. If you believe you are experiencing a cardiac emergency call 911.

5.Reducing Stress
Stress can be harmful to your health. Stress can cause an increase in blood pressure. It can also cause an irregular heart rate and rhythm. Stress can also cause reliance on unhealthy habits to make yourself feel better like smoking or overeating. Easy ways to try and reduce stress are trying yoga or meditating. Exercising and spending time with friend or family can also reduce stress.
